“Going on the figures we have for January, it is always our biggest month and the highest in visitor numbers, so it was determined that with fewer [COVID-19] cases and probably higher levels of consumer confidence, we would do a trial to see where we are sitting,” she said.

“It has been great to see community support [through the petition].

“We thought we would check on our community support and, lo and behold, there is quite a bit. Nobody wants to see our maritime history disappear.”

Ms Di Muzio said that while much work was being done behind the scenes, there were still no guaranteed funding or investment opportunities for the museum.
