Man who went to emergency department ‘to save his own life’ died after attempted suicide in waiting room toilets

A man who attempted suicide in the waiting room toilets of the Royal Hobart Hospital’s (RHH) emergency department would not have subsequently died if appropriate procedures had been able to be followed, a coroner has found.

- Mr Lattimer had presented at the Emergency Department but since it was full, was sent to the waiting room
- A coroner has found there was insufficient staffing and space to accommodate Mr Lattimer
It was an early morning in July 2016 when Joseph Aaron Lattimer, 37, called triple-0 saying he had a “high risk of self-harm”.
