Man on holiday drowns in Gold Coast canal during morning swim
The body of a man on holiday from interstate has been found in a Gold Coast canal after the victim and a group of friends went for a Tuesday morning swim, after which he did not resurface.
Police were called to the waterway near Sunshine Boulevard and Hooker Boulevard in Broadbeach Waters about 5.30am after reports three people had gone into the water and one had disappeared.

Officers were there within 10 minutes and nearby surf lifesavers raced to the scene on jet skis to join the search.
However, about 9am, police divers recovered the man’s body from the canal. His other two friends did not get into difficulties.
