Man accused of killing Gold Coast mother Kelly Wilkinson wakes from coma

“He’s clearly in a bad way but the hospital told me he will recover in time, but I would think – and we weren’t told – that he would be in for at least two or three weeks before he would be able to have any semblance of normal communication with humans.”
Mr Hannay said no one had been to see Mr Johnston, as he had been under police guard.
“He’s only just woken up and as I gather we’re the only people who have seen him since the incident,” he said.
Mr Johnston is accused of killing Ms Wilkinson, whose burnt body was found about 6.40am in the backyard of an Arundel home on April 20 after a neighbour reported a disturbance.
Three children under the age of nine were believed to be at the house at the time.
