Mallee sheep farmers want full-time wild dog control after spike in attacks

Sheep producers in Victoria’s north-west are calling for full-time wild dog control in national parks following a spate in sheep deaths.

Patchewollock farmer Darren Smith said he would stop running sheep altogether if there was not urgent action to control wild dog numbers.

“The last 12 months have been particularly bad — we probably lost 50 or 60 sheep,” he said.

“Running sheep along the edge of the state forest of national park is looking like an unviable job, so we are seriously looking at the next…
