Cricket is a sport mostly run by batsmen, and it’s their voices that define a ‘substandard’ pitch. What they mean is, these wickets are hard to bat on.
Its a very crickety thing that just when the game stumbles across an ingredient producing the most enthralling, watchable contests in years, that same ingredient is the subject of protests and formal complaints.
It is possible that Australia could play New Zealand in the World Test Championship final in mid-year, with a Bradbury-esque chance of skidding into the final if India fall to England this week. But its arguable that the two best teams are those playing in Ahmedabad.
