A 35-year-old Perth man is almost $19,000 poorer after being caught by ABF officers trying to import parts for a handgun from the US.
The first detection at the Melbourne Gateway Facility in October 2019 was a conversion kit consisting of a magazine and slide. The second consigned intercepted at the Perth Gateway Facility in January contained a revolving cylinder with six cartridge chambers. Yesterday, 26 November 2020, the man pleaded guilty to three charges under the Customs Act 1901, with the Magistrate returning fire, imposing a significant financial penalty.
