Lord of the Rings’ Elijah Wood on whether he’d return for show – Digital Spy
The return of Frodo?

Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood isn’t ruling out the return of Frodo Baggins in Amazon Prime Video’s new spin-off TV series.
The streamer is spending a fortune creating a live-action series that will be set in a previously-unexplored corner of J R R Tolkien’s Middle-earth, before the events of Lord of the Rings novel and movies.
The show is confirmed to be bringing back the elf Galadriel, albeit with Dracula’s Morfydd Clark taking over for Cate Blanchett. But what about Frodo Baggins?
In a recent interview with Indiewire, Wood admitted that he’s been slightly puzzled by the way Amazon is marketing the series.
“I am super fascinated by what they’re doing with the show,” he said. “They’re calling it The Lord of the Rings but I think that’s slightly misleading.
“From what I understand, the material they are working on exists chronologically further back in history in the lore of Lord of the Rings or Middle-earth than any characters represented in Lord of the Rings. It sounds more Silmarillion era. Not to get nerdy, but it’s the Second Age of Middle-earth.”
Still, the actor has said he is “absolutely” willing to return as Frodo if the opportunity arises, explaining: “If there was a world where that made sense and was organic to what they’re doing, then yes.
“Look, any excuse to get to go to New Zealand to work on something I am absolutely there.”
His former Lord of the Rings co-star Robyn Malcolm has previously called for Gandalf to appear in the Amazon Prime Video series as well — albeit with a gender-swapped twist.
“Those old legends, those old mystical stories, they’re so based within a patriarchal landscape,” she was quoted as saying last year. “Why not look at the magic of a matrilineal world where the magical powerhouses are women?”
TheLord of the Rings will air on Amazon Prime Video
, with no confirmed release date yet.
