Lockhart farmer Neil Schirmer sells family farm after 110 years, as top harvest makes ‘perfect exit’

After 42 harvests Neil Schirmer has completed his last lap of the paddock.
The third-generation farmer and his wife, Margie, have called time on farming at their Lockhart property in the New South Wales Riverina.
“It’s a brilliant season, I could not have scripted an exit from farming better,” Mr Schirmer said.
A tough decision to sell
Making the decision to sell the family farm was tough for the Schirmers, as Neil Schirmer was the third generation to farm “Hopefield”.
“It’s been our family farm for 110 years so it’s going to be sad to leave,” Mr Schirmer said.
