Valtteri Bottas was the quickest round Imola during Friday practice, pipping Mercedes teammate by just 0.01 seconds despite Red Bull entering the weekend as favourites.
Verstappen said afterwards that Mercedes speed was no surprise, although his own pace in his Red Bull was masked as he was unable to complete a representative qualifying simulation lap due to a driveshaft issue.
