Kerry O’Brien refuses Order of Australia after Margaret Court honour – Sydney Morning Herald
The veteran journalist has said there is something “fundamentally wrong with a system that can produce such a deeply insensitive and divisive decision”.
The decision to upgrade that to the nations highest honour, a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC), has prompted widespread criticism including from Federal Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese and Victorian Premier Dan Andrews. The Companion of the Order of Australia is awarded for eminent achievement and merit of the highest degree in service to Australia or humanity at large.
