A Katoomba man in his 50s is self-isolating at home after testing positive for COVID-19.
The man is one of two people who attended attended the Crossroads Hotel in Casula last Friday night July 3, to test positive for the virus. Authorities are investigating whether the pub was the source of the infection.
NSW Chief Health Officer, Dr Kerry Chant, addresses the media at a press conference on Friday, July 10.
NSW Chief Health Officer, Dr Kerry Chant, referred to the man as a Springwood resident at a press conference this afternoon (July 10), but the Gazette understands this reference was based on out-of-date address details. A Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District spokeswoman confirmed on Friday night the man is from Katoomba.
He was tested for COVID-19 at Blue Mountains Hospital in Katoomba.
A woman in her 30s is the other COVID-19 case who attended the Casula hotel on July 3. Both individuals are not otherwise linked.
“NSW Health has been in contact this afternoon with the management of that particular hotel, and has asked them – in fact directed them, to close and provide all necessary details,” NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard told today’s press conference.
“I suspect that particular hotel is quite a popular hotel and I understand it would have been pretty full,” he said.
The Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District spokeswoman said anyone with minor symptoms should get tested for COVID-19 at the drive-through clinic at Blue Mountains Hospital in Katoomba. With entry via Woodlands Road, the clinic is open from 9am to 12.30pm and 1pm to 4pm, seven days a week.
