Kasabian have taken to social media again to release a statement on the removal of lead singer Tom Meighan, now that details of his recent legal proceedings have been made public.
On Monday, the band announced via a statement on Twitter that Meighan would be stepping down from Kasabian in a decision made by mutual consent.
“Tom has struggled with personal issues that have affected his behaviour for some time,” the post read. “[he] now wants to concentrate all his energies on getting his life back on track.”

In response, Meighan himself posted that he was ‘in a really good place now’. At the time, the situation indicated that the singer was dealing with ‘personal issues’.

Following these initial statements, the BBC has reported that Meighan had been charged with assaulting his ex-fiancee Vikki Ager, a charge that Meighan has since pled guilty to.
Today, Kasabian have commented further on the situation, noting that ‘there is absolutely no way we can condone his assault conviction.’
“As soon as we found out about the charges made against Tom, we as a band made the decision that we could no longer work with him.” the statement reads. “Unfortunately we had to hold back this information until he was found guilty in court.”

The BBC’s report states that in April, Meighan assaulted Ms Ager whilst under the influence (smelling ‘heavily of intoxicants’), the court being told the victim sustained bruising to her knees, ankle, elbow and ‘a reddening around her neck’ after being thrown across a room and struck on the head.
The court also heard a child had witnessed the assault and called emergency services.
Meighan has been given an 18-month community order and has been ordered to complete 200 hours of community service, five days of rehabilitation and pay £175 in fees.
Meighan himself has not commented any further about the case. With his departure from the band, only guitarist/songwriter Serge Pizzorno and bassist Chris Edwards remain founding members.
