JUST so everyone is clear. I don’t know the precise direction of every single stretch of road in Brisbane. There are 360 degrees on a compass, and strangely I don’t always have one to hand. Nor do I carry a square and sextant, although I have had occasion to wear one shoe on and one shoe off. Be that as it may, if I say a view is “looking north,” I mean in a general northerly direction, or the direction in which a road is heading. Same goes for south, east and west. Eg. If someone says the Sun rises in the east and sets in the west, do we really need to debate whether it is actually ENE or WSW, and more to the point, is it really going to make any difference??
