Jobless rate continues to tumble despite COVID lockdowns – The Age
New figures show the national jobless rate fell again, dropping to 6.4 per cent in January, despite the month’s COVID-related closures.

Nationally, part-time employment dropped by 29,800 and there was a sharp fall in total hours worked, which slipped to their lowest level on record.
The number of people not working because of annual leave or flexi-time doubled in January, compared with a 16 per cent lift at the start of last year.
ABS head of labour statistics Bjorn Jarvis said the 4.9 per cent drop in hours worked was due to more people taking annual leave over the Christmas and new year period.
