Jimeoin Spreads Infectious Laughter During Covid with New TV Show

By Christy Johns
“What’s a pirate’s favourite letter?” Jimeoin asks.
“ARRRRRR” I respond quite gleefully…. well that was easy.
“It’s not the ‘R’ it’s the SEAAAAAA,” Jimeoin responds with his trademark cheeky grin.
The comedian has just gone for a surf in the sea at Noosa and still has sand clogged in his ‘bushman beard’ when I ask him to share a joke to cheer everyone up during covid.
He’s in Noosa filming the final episodes of his new TV Show ‘Waltzing Jimeoin’ and is just trying to absorb everything before heading back to lockdown in Melbourne.
“I just grew the beard so I could be like the Waltzing Matilda character. Do you know his real name? His real name is Andy. Andy laughed, Andy sang….”
The jokes keep coming in the show that sees Jimeoin hit the road from Tiona in New South Wales to the Whitsundays in Queensland, managing to avoid border restrictions and lockdowns, to inject laughter into thousands of people.
Across the eight-episode series, Jimeoin goes on fun adventures with his different comedian friends.
He visits Tamworth with Georgie Carroll, Yamba with Akmal, the Sunshine Coast with Emma Zammit, Hervey Bay and Fraser Island with Jay Wymarra & Airlie Beach, and The Whitsunday’s with Ting Lim.
“I went for a walk during the big lockdown in Melbourne and saw a caravan and I thought; no one is going to be touring over the next year or going overseas so I should do a show in Australia,” he said.
“We did camping, we stayed on a yacht in the Whitsundays, that was nice. We camped one night and glamped the next and did a show or two in caravan parks because we had to do shows outside and they were a captive audience, they didn’t have to go far.”
In the first episode, Akmal and Jimeoin bypass BCF and go straight to an Army Disposal store to get all the camping gear they need for a night under the stars.
“We’ve done years of that. We used to tour together for a good 10 or 15 years. It’s really easy to do a TV show with someone you know really well. You totally forget the camera is there.”
Jimeoin is even comfortable enough to get nude in front of the cameras.
“There’s something really liberating about being naked in the sea. That freedom of just having no underwear on was just nice – and then you see your Aunty and you’re like OH NO!”
Waltzing Jimeoin airs on Network Ten and Tenplay on Sunday August 29th at 4pm. Catch him while you can, the comedian said he’s eyeing a trip to the UK in October.
