Jailed murderer gets 30 years for raping, killing second woman at Gold Coast

A man serving a life sentence for murdering a young woman more than 30 years ago has been sentenced over the rape and murder of a second woman, Linda Reed, on the Gold Coast in 1983.

Troy James O’Meara forced 21-year-old Mrs Reed to leave her work on December 13 while she was on her lunch break, drove her 30 minutes to bushland, before binding, raping and killing her.

In Brisbane Supreme Court last week, O’Meara, 54, pleaded guilty to raping and murdering Mrs Reed. He was 17 years old at the time of the crimes.

On Wednesday, O’Meara was sentenced to 20 years for murder and 10 years for the rape of Mrs Reed….
