‘It was turning into a prickly pear’: Barty scrapes through – The Age
World No.1 Ash Barty hit a flat spot in match against countrywoman Daria Gavrilova, but comes good in the nick of time.

Barty is No.1 in the world and carried herself so. She was a royal in procession, though she would never give herself such airs. Gavrilova was a wildcard, a status that fitted her only in terms of personality, but that set expectations low.
They are friends and sometime teammates, who first clashed as teenagers in a tournament in Traralgon. As Barty explained, in meetings of this kind, rankings go out the window. So does chauvinism, on the court and off. There was no us, no them.
