Isolating in silence: How coronavirus has affected my life
When I decided (rather impulsively) to leave my hometown of Perth to move to Brisbane, I could not have predicted just how difficult it was going to be — all because of a pandemic.
In mid-2019 I began thinking about how it would be interesting to move to the other side of the country and start a new life.
For years I’d wanted to move to the east but it was Melbourne I’d had in mind, not the sunshine state. I had many friends in Melbourne and there was excellent deafblind support there. The deal breaker was the weather. I didn’t think I could survive the four-seasons-a-day thing, and so Queensland seemed like the ideal choice with its endless supply of warmth.
And so in January, I made the leap.
