Instead of removing it, let’s celebrate the W in sport – Sydney Morning Herald
Meg Lanning’s push to remove the W is understandable. But it would be sad if the only way to gender equality was to suppress rather than celebrate difference.

You can understand where Australian cricket captain Meg Lanning is coming from when she suggests that womens sports teams and competitions drop the W from their names and that womens sport becomes simply sport.
Its the place where womens sport dwelled for a long time, one out and one back from mens. Its a better place than the time when womens sport wasnt even in the frame. Its become a better place in Lannings lifetime. Its better than the surprisingly recent time when golf clubs did not recognise…
