Inside the Geelong contact tracing team – The Age
The contact tracing team in Barwon Health is dealing with some of the biggest coronavirus outbreaks in regional Victoria.
The contact tracing unit in Geelong began operating on July 17, the first of three established outside of Melbourne, about the time infections were spreading at a Colac abattoir.
Barwon Health infectious diseases director Eugene Athan says handing control of contact tracing to the Geelong-based health service provided local expertise and community understanding that was impossible to achieve from Melbourne.
