Injured hiker winched to safety after spending night with rescue crews
An injured hiker who fell 10 metres down a Southern Downs cliff and spent the night with rescuers was finally winched to safety on Sunday.
The man, in his 20s, was hiking on Mount Superbus, 44 kilometres east of Warwick in the Main Range National Park, just before 11.30am on Saturday when he fell.
A rescue helicopter spotted him from the air before paramedics and other emergency services reached him on foot, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said.
But due to the rough terrain, the ground crews were forced to spend the night with the man, who had suffered lower-body injuries, before the helicopter returned on Sunday morning.
The RACQ LifeFlight helicopter then flew the man to Toowoomba Hospital, a spokeswoman for the rescue service…
