Influx of COVID cases from PNG sends Cairns Hospital into ‘code yellow’

An internal emergency has been declared at a Queensland hospital as it struggles to cope with an influx of COVID-19 patients from Papua New Guinea.
Cairns Hospital in north Queensland, which is managing a number of COVID-19 patients who had arrived from PNG, declared a code yellow overnight.

The increase in coronavirus patients came at the same time as a spike in road crash victims, pushing the hospital to capacity.
A Cairns Hospital spokesman said patients could still present to the emergency department.
