Indonesian police say new Jemaah Islamiyah terrorist cell was recruiting and training
Twenty-two suspects arrested by Indonesian authorities in recent weeks have been connected to the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) militant group — among them a convicted leader who was recruiting and training new members, officials say.
Key points:
The Al Qaeda-linked JI carried out a string of bombings in Indonesia, including the 2002 bombings in Bali that killed 202 people, including 88 Australians.
It was banned by a court in 2008 and has been weakened by a sustained crackdown on militants by Indonesia’s counterterrorism police with Australian and US support.
