Eddie McGuire should not have used the word proud in his widely critiqued opening monologue, conceded AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan.
McLachlan was measured but forthright in his critique of the Collingwood president on Tuesday afternoon, telling reporters McGuire got it wrong.
The league boss revealed hed spoken to McGuire on the phone and communicated his sentiment.
