‘I hope that was a slip-up’: Swans baulk at ‘VFL’ name for new-look comp – The Age
The AFL’s decision to merge the NEAFL into the Victorian Football League but keep the VFL name has bemused NSW footy figures, including Swans chief executive Tom Harley.

More feathers were ruffled north of the Victorian border when it emerged the remodelled competition would retain the VFL name despite the fact it would also include clubs from NSW, Queensland and potentially the ACT – reflective of a Victorian-centric bias many believe continues to pervade the sport’s administrative ranks.
“I hope that was a slip-up,” said Wayne Campbell, the former head of football at GWS who now heads up Sydney University’s AFL operations.
