I am Secretary of the Bribie Island Historical Society and I am hoping that someone holds another photo of the amazing business woman Sarah Balls, who held the leases of many Queensland Railway Refreshment
Rooms including Central Station from 1904 to 1917.Sarah also was the proprietor of the Stock Exchange Hotel in Brisbane from 1904 to 1915. Prior to then she held the leases of the Queensland Hotel in North Ipswich, the Queen’s Hotel in Maryborough and the Prince of Wales Hotel in Brisbane. She also was a partner in the Engineering company Smith & Balls in Margaret Street Brisbane.
Bribie Island’s interest is that she owned and managed a Fish Cannery on Bribie from 1908 to 1915.
