The discovery comes from the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy, or, SOFIA. This is a modified Boeing 747 that contains a 2.5 metre telescope used for infrared astronomy. It is able to fly above most of the worlds atmosphere to get a less-obstructed view of space.
