How likely are patients to survive after being admitted to ICU with COVID-19? – Mornings – ABC News
Alfred Health’s Director of ICU says intensive care units are ready to look after more coronavirus patients if the virus continues to spread.

The number of patients with coronavirus being admitted to hospital in Victoria is increasing, so how well prepared are ICU units across Melbourne?
Director of ICU at Alfred Health, Associate Professor Steve McLaughlin, says patients who are put on ventilators have a 75% chance of survival, but people who recover may experience damage to their voice box, or difficulty breathing.
“‘We are prepared. Every hospital’s got a plan to look after patients. Each hospital also has the ability to expand its intensive care units if needed.”
