Julie Andrews had a number of things working against her before she became an international superstar in her first movie role in Mary Poppins.
Andrews, who turned 85 on October 1, almost had to turn down the role because she was pregnant when it was first offered. But studio chief Walt Disney was wowed by her Broadway performance in Camelot, and was willing to wait until after she gave birth to start production.
