Harvest Moon 2020: Special October Full Moon to Appear Thursday Ahead of Halloween’s Rare Blue Moon – Newsweek
The full moon that occurs closest to the fall equinox is traditionally dubbed the “Harvest Moon.”
On Thursday, a special Harvest Moon will appear in the sky, with a Blue Moon set to occur later this month on Halloween.
Full moons occur when our natural satellite is located opposite the sun, with the Earth directly in between. On Thursday, October 1, this will happen at 5:05 p.m. ET. At this time, the face of the moon that we can see from Earth will be fully illuminated, appearing like a perfect circle.
