Cricket Australia will move to block any attempts by Seven West Media to follow in the footsteps of the nation’s major football codes in renegotiating a new broadcast deal.

Foxtel and Seven combined in 2018 for a six-year, $1.18 billion deal of which Seven contributes about $82 million annually but the two networks have not enjoyed the ratings they had hoped for. Seven has even written down its contract as “onerous”, meaning it is a loss maker.
The AFL and NRL were forced to renegotiate the terms of their TV contracts after the onset of the global health crisis led to a reduction in the season.
