Groundbreaking implant transforms Brisbane woman’s major birth defect – Brisbane Times
The 21-year-old suffers from “funnel chest” but a specially designed implant has allowed her to regain her confidence and encourage others to do the same.
In Ms Rutherford-Heard’s case it was coupled with a relatively serious heart abnormality that was corrected with surgery when she was a child.
However, she retained the physical deformity, which she said was difficult to live with, especially as a young woman going through puberty.
Caitlin, now 21, says she struggled with body image growing up.
