Grace Tame Press Club address targets Scott Morrison’s ‘as a father’ response to rape allegation

Australian of the Year Grace Tame has spoken out against Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s use of the phrase “as a father” in his initial response to rape allegations made by a former Liberal staffer.
Key points:
- Grace Tame has warned journalists to tread carefully when dealing with survivors of abuse so that they don’t have to relive their trauma
- She also said it “shouldn’t take having children to have a conscience” when asked about comments Scott Morrison made
- She said comments by the Chief of Defence to recent graduates were “not helpful at all”
The Tasmanian sexual abuse survivor and advocate was asked about Mr Morrison’s comments at the National Press Club on Wednesday.
“It shouldn’t take having children to have a conscience,” she said.
