Gold Coast’s Merrimac State School principal and Broadbeach Cats great Andrew Schumacher dies

The sudden death of a beloved Gold Coast primary school principal has sparked an outpouring of grief.
Andrew Schumacher – believed to have been in his 40s – has been remembered as a “gentle giant”, “larger than life” and a “kind soul” after he reportedly died from a medical episode last week.
A father-of-three and popular member of the Gold Coast AFL community, he had been principal of Merrimac State School since mid-2020 after more than a decade teaching in south-east Queensland.
