Gold Coast surfing duck will ‘steal anyone’s board, even a world champion’s’

Since he was seven days old this duck has been making waves at Rainbow Bay on the Gold Coast.

- He has become a local celebrity, managing to jump on world champion Steph Gilmore’s surfboard
- But owner Kate Miller says it takes months of work to raise a surfing duck
In fact, Duck has even managed to catch a few waves with champion surfer Stephanie Gilmore.
“It does like to surf and it’ll steal anyone’s board, even a world champion’s,” said Duck’s owner Tom Thomson.
“It’s like a duck to water — it just did it.”
Duck gives people ‘simple joy’
Since 16-year-old Tom and his mother Kate Miller adopted Duck last March, the bird’s surfing antics have made him a local celebrity.
