Get rid of prior opportunity in holding-the-ball decisions: Hardwick – The Age
Richmond coach Damien Hardwick believes the game should abolish prior opportunity when assessing whether a player should be deemed to be holding the ball.
He also said a change to the rule will help open up the game further, which the AFL is desperately trying to do.
If we go back through the course of time and look at history, players used to kick it. Now under pressure, theyll handball. So if we take away prior opportunity it probably reduces congestion around that and it will get the ball moving forward through kick.
I think back in the old days, you knew if you were going to get tackled and you knocked it on.
