Kate McCartney applied to be the artist-in-residence at an Australian Antarctic base in 2012. Or at least she thinks it was 2012.
She didn’t get it.
She doesn’t remember why she applied, beyond a vague memory of studying biology in school.
“At that point I was doing comedy and I’m like, ‘What am I doing with my life?'” she says.
She was in her early 30s, and three years away from releasing web series The Katering Show with her creative partner Kate McLennan.
That went on to gather more than 11 million…
