Garbage truck driver pleads guilty over crash which killed Patricia Bartlett

A garbage truck driver charged over the death of a 51-year-old mother in a head-on collision near Darwin has pleaded guilty in the NT Supreme Court although the victim’s family say they do not want him to be deported.

Shah Newaz, 32, was charged after the truck he was driving collided with the car of Patricia Ann Bartlett in July last year on McMillans Road in Knuckey Lagoon, about 20 minutes south of Darwin.

In court on wednesday, Mr Newaz’s defence lawyer Ray Murphy said the 32-year-old was “truly remorseful”.
