Les Miserables follows in the steps of La Haine, combining a tense police procedural with an inside view of one of France’s most notorious housing projects.
Despite its bold title, there is nary a candlestick or a musket in sight in Ladj Ly’s Cannes Jury Prize-winning and Oscar-nominated film.
