Fraser Coast residents prepare to leave as bushfire worsens
A dangerous bushfire has triggered a prepare-to-leave warning for residents of a tiny township in Queensland’s Fraser Coast region.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency alert was issued after 1pm on Wednesday for St Mary, on the edge of state forestry about 30 kilometres south-west of Maryborough.
“Currently as at 1.15pm, a dangerous fire is travelling from Glenbar Road towards St Mary State Forest. The fire is likely to impact St Mary,” it read.
“Fire crews are working to contain the fire but firefighters may not be able to protect every property. You should not expect a firefighter at your door.”
Residents were warned visibility and air quality might be affected.
