The first vaccines over the line will not necessarily be the best but will set standards for safety and immune responses that others will need to meet.
The results are certainly reassuring in terms of their safety and are encouraging in terms of magnitude and type of immune response they elicit, said Peter Richmond, a respected vaccine researcher and associate professor at the University of Western Australia.
