First Aston Martin DBX SUV rolls off the production line – Drive

The 2020 Aston Martin DBX is arguably the most important model for the company – best known for supplying coupes to fictional spy character James Bond – as the luxury SUV will bring with it a new set of customers.
Patrik Nilsson, Aston Martin regional director for Asia Pacific, told Drive in February 2020 all local allocations for the DBX were already sold at that point.
“It’s been a roaring success,” said Nilsson at the time. “It’s blown us out of the water as to how well it’s been received.”
The Aston Martin DBX carves out its own space between the Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus in the ultra-premium SUV segment, with the model starting from $357,000 plus on-road costs. A 4.0-litre V8 sourced from AMG produces 405kW/700Nm.
In May, the head of Mercedes-AMG Tobias Moers took over the role of CEO at Aston Martin after the company posted a £120 million (AU$223 million) loss during the first quarter of 2020. It was a month after Mercedes-Benz F1 chief Toto Wolff invested in the British manufacturer.
The DBX is also the first Aston Martin to be manufactured in St Athan, Wales.
The company officially opened the Welsh plant in December 2019, converting a former Royal Air Force base into a production line within large aircraft hangars located at the site.
