Federal government tears up four Victorian government deals with foreign nations
The federal government has announced it has torn up four agreements between the Victorian government and foreign nations.
It is the first time the federal government has used new powers which allow it to cancel agreements that state and territory governments, local councils and public universities strike with other countries.
One of the agreements scrapped is Victoria’s controversial Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) agreement with China.
The federal government has also cancelled agreements Victorian government agencies have struck with Iran and Syria.
More to come.
