Federal funding injection gets UQ mRNA vaccine facility moving
“[This technology] has been around for about 10-to-15 years, maybe a little longer, but it’s been during the pandemic that it really came into its own, the safety profile and effectiveness has really become apparent,” he said.

“That speaks to the ability of the technology to be very flexible. For example if you want to redesign an mRNA vaccine against a new COVID variant, all you have to do is change the RNA sequence, which greatly speeds up development time.”
The federal funding has been allocated through its research organisation Therapeutics Innovation Australia, and its chief executive, Stuart Newman, said the UQ facility would support other work being done around the country on mRNA vaccine technology.
