Users across Facebook were unexpectedly logged out of the platform on Jan. 22. When opening the Facebook app, users received a “session expired” notification and were prompted to log back in.
The forced logouts quickly led to false claims on social media with many users claiming an update had occurred that allows the social media site to track data and location.
