Face mask found in dead sea turtle off Queensland sparks COVID environment concerns
A dead sea turtle found off Queensland had remnants of a face mask in its stomach, sparking a call for better disposal of COVID-19 pandemic-related waste.
The results of the necropsy performed on the green sea turtle last month were revealed on Thursday.
University of Sunshine Coast marine biologist Kathy Townsend, whose research team made the discovery, has called for an end to “poor disposal practices” of “COVID-specific, single-use debris”.
