‘Extraordinary times’: NRL to bend the rules for Sonny Bill Williams – Sydney Morning Herald
Peter V’landys has indicated Williams will get an exemption from a rule prohibiting players from having two contracts at once, allowing him to re-join the Roosters.
Williams remains on contract in 2021 with Toronto, who is reported to have joined for $10 million over two seasons, and NRL rules stipulate players cannot join a club when they are under contract in that same year elsewhere.
Toronto’s Australian owner David Argyle had offered to rip up Williams’ 2020 deal and sign him to a new contract for next year to help facilitate him linking up with the Roosters again while the cash-strapped Wolfpack are out of action.
