The European Union’s medicines regulator has approved the use of the COVID-19 vaccine jointly developed by US company Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech.

The decision, made by the EU’s European Medicines Agency, puts European countries on course to start inoculations within a week.

EU countries including Germany, Austria and Italy have said they plan to start vaccinations from December 27.

The rollout of the vaccine in the United States and the United Kingdom began earlier this month.

More to come.
