EU gives green light to AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine despite German concerns
Europe’s medicines regulator has approved AstraZeneca and Oxford University’s COVID-19 vaccine for people over the age of 18, making it the third vaccine to be cleared for use in the European Union.

- The European Medicines Agency said the jab had an efficacy of around 60 per cent in trials
- It said it expected the vaccine would offer protection to elderly people
- Germany had recommended the vaccine only be given to people aged between 18 and 64
The AstraZeneca vaccine demonstrated an efficacy of around 60 per cent in the trials on which the decision was based, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) said in a statement.
